What West Haven emergency calls look like
Flooded basements during storms, sump pumps that burn out from running nonstop, and burst pipes in student rentals near the University of New Haven that sat empty and unheated over a break.
Homes close to the water often deal with high groundwater, so sump pumps and backwater protection matter more here than in most of the area. Salt air is also rough on exposed pipes and outdoor spigots.
What to do right now
- Shut the main water valve if anything is leaking.
- Keep people out of basement water near outlets or appliances.
- Check the sump pump's plug and breaker.
- Stop running water if drains are backing up.
- Call 203-654-9405 and tell us if water is coming in.
What it costs
After-hours, weekend and holiday calls usually cost more than a weekday visit. We give you the full price, including any emergency or trip fee, before work starts.
Questions we hear in West Haven
Can you help with student rentals near the university?
Yes. Tenants can call in an emergency, and landlords can set up one number for every unit they own.
My basement floods every storm. What stops it?
Often a bigger pump, a battery backup or a backwater valve on the sewer line. We look at where the water gets in first.
